A large portion of it collapsed, rendering the bridge impassible. In 2003, the bridge was struck by a tornado. The rail corridor is under the ownership of Headwaters Charitable Trust. After decades of use, the bridge would be uncrossed until from 1959 until 1987, when the Knox and Kane Railroad began running excursion trains for tourists. When fully completed the trail will span from the Kinzua Bridge State Park to the Clarion Junction, 73.8- miles in length. The Knox and Kane Railroad (K& K) was a short-line railroad in Pennsylvania that operated between Knox, in Clarion County, to Kane and then on to Mount Jewett, in McKean County.
